Spring Skin Shifts: What Your Skin Needs Right Now
As we move into spring, it’s very common to notice changes in the skin even if your routine has been working well all winter.
Warmer temperatures, increased sun exposure, seasonal allergies, changes in humidity, and spending more time outdoors can all affect the skin barrier. For many people, spring is when skin starts feeling simultaneously dehydrated and congested at the same time.
This is also the time of year when I begin seeing:
• more inflammation
• increased sensitivity
• random breakouts
• dehydration lines
• post winter dullness
• clients wanting to “reset” their skin
One of the biggest mistakes I see this time of year is overcorrecting. When skin starts feeling oily, congested, or uneven, many people immediately increase exfoliation or switch to aggressive products. Often, this actually creates more inflammation and barrier disruption.
Instead, spring skin care should focus on balance.
A few things I recommend prioritizing this season:
• Daily SPF consistency
Even on cloudy days or while running errands. Increased incidental sun exposure adds up quickly this time of year.
• Lighter hydration layers
Many people benefit from lighter weight hydration while still supporting the skin barrier.
• Supporting inflammation
Stress, allergies, lack of sleep, and environmental changes can all increase inflammation internally and externally.
• Consistency over constantly changing products
Spring is not the time to try five new products at once.
In the treatment room lately, I’ve been reaching for:
• calming hydration
• barrier supportive treatments
• red LED light therapy
• lymphatic drainage
• gentle exfoliation instead of aggressive resurfacing
Your skin often responds best when it feels supported rather than stripped.
As always, if your skin has been feeling different lately, we can adjust your treatment plan and home care routine based on what your skin is needing right now.
